Seoul Reversed
The ongoing global warming crisis and the increase in natural disasters inspired this collage series. In two renderings of Seoul, I wondered how one of the biggest cities in the world—and my childhood city—-would look after a flood or extreme drought.
The watercolor painting emphasizes the possible risks associated with global warming. To convey the idea of a dystopian world devastated by pollution and global warming, I constructed a foam board platform under the man in the yellow jacket, isolating the subject within this environment. The path that eventually leads to the city is overrun by nature, implying the natural cycles that swallow civilization’s remains. I intended to create a striking visual representation of the potential consequences of environmental harm.
